By now most Hillsboro, Oregon residents know something about HiLight Internet.  Maybe you have seen a sign or seen the trucks about town installing new fiber optic wire.   If you thought it was another cable company holding up traffic, you would be right.  But there is a difference when it comes to HiLight.  It is owned by the City of Hillsboro which means all of us own it too!

For $55 dollars a month, Hillsboro residents can get 1 Gigabyte upload and download speeds.  That is less money than most of us pay and 5 to 10 times the speed.  We can all attest to how much internet we use and COVID has us all online all the time it seems.  Many households have 3, 4, 5, or even more users online at once.  So HiLight seems to be coming online at the perfect time.  But can it really be that good?   Well, we went to the source to interview Customer #1- the Moore household.  Watch our interview with David Moore by playing the video here or catch it on our YouTube channel right here.

Now don’t get too excited folks- not just yet.  Getting all that fiber in the ground and networked to the cities routers and hubs is a monumental task.  But based on what I am seeing and hearing this HiLight is going to be one of the best things our City has ever done.  And consider we have done a lot- so this is really very good!  Right now Shute Park Area A and B are being lit up.  Next up will be South Hillsboro.

Here is what our City is saying:

HiLight reflects the City’s commitment to:

  • Offering affordable, high-speed internet service for all
  • Providing simple, straightforward services and pricing
  • Supporting education, students, and life-long learning
  • Creating opportunity and boosting local businesses
  • Protecting access to the internet with no throttling or data caps
  • Keeping money in the community
  • Delivering outstanding customer service and user experiences

HiLight is fast. Really fast. No other service provider in Hillsboro offers internet speeds as fast as HiLight!

HiLight is affordable. HiLight delivers its super-fast speeds at a fraction of the monthly rates of other providers.  HiLight also offers Bridge service to help economically-challenged households get connected.

HiLight is simple. HiLight offers a few options for internet service, as well as digital voice service. That’s it! Not a lot to sort through. No confusing packages. No tricks or gimmicks. Straightforward.

HiLight is clear. HiLight’s rates are the rates you pay. No additional fees and taxes. No limited-time promotional introductory prices that soon expire.

HiLight is unlimited. No data caps or throttling of your internet. Unlimited local and nationwide long distance (including Canada) with digital voice.

HiLight is service focused. We put a premium on delivering outstanding user experiences.

HiLight is forward looking. The HiLight infrastructure is built to support future community opportunities that foster business and enhance the livability of Hillsboro. This includes providing a foundation for dozens of potential “Smart City” initiatives.

HiLight is local. HiLight is designed to serve Hillsboro, with a commitment to improving the lives of community residents. The revenue from user fees stays here in our community.

HiLight is built for you. We do everything with Hillsboro residents in mind; whether it is the quality of our service, our pricing, or our commitment to equity for all.

Thanks to David Moore for the interview and thanks to the HiLight staff at the City of Hillsboro.  This is really very very good!
