For the second year in a row, the drive-through Winter Holiday Season lightshow extravaganza called Lightopia: An Illuminated Journey will sparkle and shine at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex (a.k.a. Hillsboro Stadium).
The event, which will run December 9 through December 31 (closed on Christmas Day), is described as a leisurely drive through a half mile-long, brilliant display of lights and seasonal vignettes ranging from funny to dazzling. The course is about a 15 or 20 minute-long experience. Only automobiles will be admitted. No pedestrians, bicycles, or motorcycles.
Lightopia is free, courtesy of the City of Hillsboro, but advance reservations are required. One reservation per automobile, per household. Each automobile must make a separate reservation. The online booking system will open December 1. Reservation slots will become available according to the following schedule:
- December 1 at 9am: Reservations for Dec. 9 – 14
- December 8 at 1pm: Reservations for Dec. 15 – 21
- December 15 at 6pm: Reservations for Dec. 22 – 31
Last year, slots filled up fast and furiously so those interested would be wise not to drag their feet. More information and a link to the reservation system will be accessible on the Lightopia page of the City of Hillsboro’s website.
Reservation holders are asked to arrive between 30 and 15 minutes before their tour’s start time. As a COVID-19 precaution, masks are required when outside of vehicles for everyone age 5 and up, and strongly encouraged for ages 2 to 4. The Gordon Faber Recreation Complex is located at 4450 NE Century Boulevard.
