The COVID-19 pandemic has caused every facet of our collective existence to suffer challenges unprecedented during most of our lifetimes. Hillsboro area business owners and operators know all too well that commerce is no exception. Safety guidelines and mandates have resulted in operational restrictions and understandable caution on the part of consumers limits the way products are being purchased.
In this time of community-wide business struggles, we at the Herald would like to make a respectful appeal to our readers. According to your ability, please patronize the Hillsboro area’s locally owned enterprises. When the bottom line on a business’ financial statement is hovering near the boundary between being in the black and being in the red, every little bit helps. Furthermore, each storefront that falls vacant equates to a shrinking portion of the total pot of money spent by local consumers that will remain in our local economy.
In the same spirit, the City of Hillsboro is announcing a new interactive map on its website. The map’s purpose is to help consumers identify small businesses around Hillsboro with responsible COVID-19 safety practices and procedures in effect. Right now, the City is putting out a call for local small businesses to add themselves to the map. Here is the link to the survey a business must complete to be included. Here is the link to the City’s “Support Small Businesses” Map itself.
From all of us here at the Herald, to all of you, Hillsboro, here’s wishing you a safe December.
