Hillsboro Herald – Where Are They Now?

Our news media outlet tracks the sons and daughters of Hillsboro as they go out into the world and change it for the better.ย  The US Marine Corps contacted us to recognize one of our own who is making a positive impact in the world.ย  Today we celebrate U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Daniel Guerrero has been recognized for his efforts to create a community while serving in Japan.ย  What a very Hillsboro thing to do!ย  Daniel is a graduate of Hillsboro’s Liberty High School! Way to represent your family, your town, and yourself, young man!ย  Keep up the good work and thank you for protecting our Freedom, creating a better world, and spreading the spirit of community while you are serving abroad!

We asked Daniel what he misses most about Hillsboro, and who inspired him while he was growing up on his way to the Marines?
First and foremost, I wanted to say thank you, and what an honor it is to have the Hillsboro Herald cover this award!
I graduated from Liberty High School in 2018 and enlisted in the Marine Corps that same summer out of the Hillsboro recruiting substation. Seven years later, Iโ€™m now 25 and I am absolutely loving the experience of living in Japan. As incredible as it has been, I still find myself missing the Hillsboro communityโ€”especially spending time at the Main Street Tuesday Market, grabbing pizza from Pizzario, or enjoying a burger and fries at the Little Big Burger in Orenco Station.
When I think about the people who shaped me most, my parents immediately come to mind. They have always pushed me to pursue what I love, and they’ve supported me every step of the way. Iโ€™m also deeply grateful for my wife, Kessia, and my teammates who helped me create Cars and Coffee in Iwakuni, Japan. Thanks to all of their hard work and support we have been able to thrive as much as we have.
Best regards,
Sergeant Daniel Guerrero
