Attention All Residents – Especially those who love downtown or live there.

The City of Hillsboro appears to be ready to move ahead with the old Hanks Thriftway property between 6th and 7th, TV Highway, and the MAX Light Rail.ย  This 1-acre site holds the promise to be something special, and it should be.ย  The City is seeking a plan that will include the requests of community members and at the same time be responsive to our new power players, Pacific University and OHSU Tuality Hospital.

What do you want to see?ย  A Grocery?ย  Housing?ย  Shops?ย  Parking?

Have your voice heard and make a difference!ย  Take the survey online and/or join the meeting next week online to hear the latest on this massive and very important project!ย  We hope to see you at the meeting and that you add your voice to the mix which will help make Block 67 even better in the end!

Project Overview

Making Downtown Hillsboro a more vibrant, livable place continues to be a top community priority. The redevelopment of Block 67 will help further meet the communityโ€™s goals for Downtown Hillsboro as well as enhance the connection between Hillsboroโ€™s Health and Education District and the historic Downtown.

The City does not intend to retain ownership of the block in the long term, rather to work with one or more private developers that are capable of supporting the Cityโ€™s goals for Downtown.

For additional information on Block 67,ย contact Justin DeMello onlineย or by phone, 503-681-6492.

Project History

Initial Proposal

Projectย

In August 2017, the City issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeking development partners for Block 67, and Project^ was selected. City of Hillsboro staff and Project^ development partners discussed project updates with community members at two open houses and valuable feedback was provided by the community.

Due to rising construction costs and challenging market conditions, the project was put on hold early in 2020. This pause allowed the project to be realigned with the development environment, which has undergone tremendous changes during 2020-21.

Public Open Houses

During the spring and summer of 2017, two productive public discussions were held at the Walters Cultural Arts Center, with over 100 in attendance at each.ย  Key themes heard included:

  • Support higher density residential and activity generation on the site
  • Interest in food and grocery choices on the site and in the greater Downtown area
  • Desire to evaluate different housing options
  • Create a destination use and draw to the Downtown through retail and recreational opportunities
  • Have a thoughtful and sustainable design
  • Be sensitive to parking conditions
  • Support for a redevelopment strategy for the entire Downtown to make it a regional draw for visitors as well as a destination for Hillsboro residents

Iโ€™d love to see a design that resembles what one sees at progress Downs or Lake Oswego. Grocery shopping like Trader Joeโ€™s. A decent restaurant. Great parking
