On July 6th at 12:32 AM, a massive explosion rocked a good section of Hillsboro, shaking houses and causing many shocked residents to look for answers. Many took to social media and called the Hillsboro Police Department for answers. The Herald has received reports from people who heard, saw, and felt the shake of the blast at Baseline and Brookwood, South Hillsboro, the Hillsboro Airport areas, Shute Park, Downtown, and even near Orenco.
People expressed fear, dismay, shock, and speculation about this. Fireworks? Probably not, given the shaking of the foundations and the distance this explosion affected people. Transformer? There are no reports of power outages, and no one has found a blown transformer. They don’t tend to shake the ground either. Home-made bomb of some magnitude? Maybe. We are awaiting more information from HPD. But an explosion of this size seen over 5 to 10 miles and felt for miles would have left a crater or some damage that would have been discovered by now.
Marla Smith posted her video on Next Door, which shows the light, explosion, and shockwave almost simultaneously. Many believe that her camera footage is the closest. She lives at 39th and SE Meadow.

Was it a Meteor?
There have been many reasonably good arguments that this could have been a sonic boom and airborne explosion caused by a meteor fragment. Because it was two days after the 4th of July, the easy explanation was that this was just another blast at night. But the scale of it, the distance it was seen and felt, all of that and more lead one to the conclusion that this was not a firework.
Shane Carroll video-tapped this light in the sky about 12 minutes before the blast was felt and seen. It does appear to be a comet or meteor. We looked up some calculations as to what time would be needed for a piece of meteor to hit our atmosphere from space. We found that it could take seconds and maybe a minute or so, but likely not 12 minutes.
So what was it?

A meteor would have been moving too fast, but compare the speed seen in this video with footage from any orbital debris re-entering the atmosphere, i.e. space shuttle accident footage. That sonic boom would be loud, but not really leave a crater.
I have camera footage of object in the sky seconds before the flash and boom. There is def something more to this story! If anyone has camera footage with audio during or right after incident listen to it maybe even slow it down while listening.
We have audio that was only heard on the video playback not in person at time incident. Def weird
Also if anyone in hillsboro airport area at 107am has any videos of sky look at them there was something in my video at that time too. I’d like to get these videos to right person who can analyze them an inform the public but also not tryin to have men in black zap me 😁
