The Real Story – A Column

Are you looking for new leadership in Hillsboro?  Anyone with a heartbeat in Hillsboro, Oregon, knows that things at City Hall are not going well these days.  From the censure and controversy over Councilor Salgado’s behavior to the 18 tax giveaway deals for Data Centers that were pushed through, things are a mess.  There is an overwhelming sense among our residents that our current leadership is misaligned with us.  Hillsboro is a Corporate town, and lately it seems there is a double standard that puts people second across the board.  The sentiment we hear from community members is that change is needed.  Finding candidates not sponsored by the Chambers of Commerce or corporate interests is the key to getting the power and the purse centered back on our people.  Well, two progressive candidates have filed who are proven to be in the people’s camp.  Their actions speak louder than any words that could be written.

Tonight at the Eagle’s Nest Vineyard, you will have a chance to meet two excellent candidates for Hillsboro City Council.  Diana Jackson and Karim Delgado are running for two of the 6 seats this fall and will offer a powerful choice for those who are feeling unrepresented by current Hillsboro City Councilors.  This family-friendly event at one of the most beautiful spots in Washington County is a chance to meet, interact with, and learn about Diana and Karim as they launch their campaigns.  Both have posted all of their positions online.  None of those positions put corporations and big money first.  Each action they have taken in their personal lives and careers demonstrates that.  So many candidates make themselves into something in the few months before they campaign.  These two have made a difference in our community for a long time now, and you, as a resident, should give them serious consideration.

Diana Jackson & Karim Delgado Campaign Kickoff Party

Billion-dollar corporations have the city council’s ear. Diana Jackson & Karim Delgado are running to give it back to you.

Join us at Eagle’s Nest Vineyard on Saturday, July 18, from 6 – 8 p.m., and hear from your two Hillsboro City Council candidates about a bold and brave path forward. Together, we are planting the seeds for a Hillsboro led by proven fighters for the working class.

This is a family-friendly event where you will hear from members of our change slate, ask questions, find out how to get involved, or just grab some snacks and play yard games.

We’ll be collecting shelf-stable food donations for Washington County Community Pantries, so if you’d like to help, please bring a can of food or a box of snacks.

Chip in today and support a bold, new vision for Hillsboro!

From Karim’s Campaign Page-

Karim has built a life of service. He recognizes now that to continue to effect meaningful change, he needs to be inside the machine. Hillsboro is at a crossroads: its future will either serve big businesses and their lobbies, or the members of this community already working hard to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. He knows which side he is on.

From Diana’s Campaign Site

Rooted in Hillsboro.
Ready to work.

Diana works downtown at a nonprofit public defense law firm and serves on the Hillsboro Planning Commission. She sits on the executive board of her union, Oregon AFSCME Local 3668, and volunteers with the Hillsboro United Mutual Aid Network coordinating food distribution for local families.

First and foremost, she’s a mom, and her kids are the inspiration behind everything she does.

Best of luck to these two terrific candidates who have entered the race for Hillsboro’s future.
