Safe Rest Pods to Provide Shelter Through October

The Safe Rest Pods on SW 17th Avenue provide life-saving shelter near Winco & Dairy Creek Park as the City & partners work toward building a future year-round shelter at the site.

Since reopening in December 2023, the temporary shelter has:

  • Sheltered & supported 30 to 40 individuals & couples each night, with pets allowed.
  • Served 99 individual guests from 95 households.
  • Supported 18 guests with placement in longer-term housing.
  • Connected 99 guests to housing assessments, a key first step on the path from homelessness to long-term housing support.

The Safe Rest Pods will close at the end of October as we prepare the site for year-round shelter construction.

You can learn more about the Year-Round Shelter planned for SW 17th Avenue, see updated designs, and ask questions on Engage Hillsboro.

Isn’t October around the start of when people would most need shelter? This timing baffles me! Am I missing something — is there an alternative site while the construction is going on? (Question also submitted on the Engage Hillsboro site)

Those pods and Open Door that is managing them are doing really well. I agree. I am not sure why they need to move them. I’d engage City Councjl. ENGAGE won’t get u anywhere. I’m plugged into that entire situation and will let u know and find out for myself.
