Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Slashes its Way to the Vault
Theatre in Hillsboro, Oregon.
STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, (high school edition) the Tony Award- winning musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim. Opening on Friday, October 11, 2024, this darkly
captivating show will run through Sunday, October 20, 2024 bringing the haunting tale of revenge and madness to life on stage. Directed by Derek Brown, this production promises to be an unforgettable experience, combining stunning visuals, powerful performances, and Sondheim's legendary score.
From the eerie opening chords to the chilling finale, audiences will be gripped by the story of Sweeney Todd, the vengeful barber who returns to London after years of unjust imprisonment, seeking retribution against those who wronged him.
Cindy Wilkins, Executive Director of STAGES shared her excitement: “Sweeney Todd is one of those rare musicals that challenges both our amazing performers and the audience. Its blend of dark humor, gripping drama, and beautiful music creates an atmosphere unlike any other. We can’t wait to share our vision of this classic with the community.”
The audition process for this show was daunting as there were 90 teens who auditioned for the main roles. The cast features Bo Brown as Sweeney Todd and Dice Meek as Mrs. Lovett, with a highly talented ensemble bringing the twisted tale to life. A great tale for Halloween.
STAGES has created a platform for young actors to be challenged and reach new heights as they
strive to bring highly professional shows to the community. STAGES goal is to encourage
creativity and recognize the uniqueness of each performer.
