One of the stories the Herald had hoped to cover during the New Year week was the Glencoe High School Band’s amazing trip to London, England.  The Crimson Tide played Carnegie Hall in 2024, and were one of the only high school bands ever invited to play in the London New Year’s Day Parade!  The full story is below- way to go TIDE!  This was a life-changing experience, and the Hillsboro School District shared the news and a video of the performance on social media.  The Herald covers Hillsboro High Schools in the news- so make sure to send your school’s stories to us for a feature story to our ever-growing audience!

Glencoe High School’s Band had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity over winter break – they were invited to perform in London’s New Year’s Day Parade! This is the first time in the parade’s 40-year history that they have had a band from Oregon perform. KOIN 6 News ran a story (https://tinyurl.com/yfpypnyf) about the historic appearance just before the group departed for the UK in late December, and you can watch the band’s performance in the posted video (https://tinyurl.com/3x489d8k) of Sky News’ broadcast. While in London, students also performed at Smith Square – an 18th-century venue.

According to Band Director Benjamin Adams, “The Glencoe Marching Tide dazzled audiences across the globe with their performance. Over 700,000 people lined the streets to watch the parade in person, and 500 million viewed the event online. The Marching Tide was selected because of their outstanding record of excellence. An international performance was a natural progression for Glencoe, as they performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2024. The Glencoe Marching Tide has placed in the top 3 of their division in the last five years of competition, and is a Starlight Parade Sweepstakes winner. The band plans to participate in another international trip in 2030.”

Many thanks to Ben and other staff and family members who chaperoned, fundraised, and otherwise supported students on this amazing journey. And way to go, Glencoe Marching Tide! You make us Proud to be HSD!
