Editor’s Note: So many people have been affected by the fears and direct impacts of immigration related arrests.  Local businesses, especially those that traditionally serve our Latino/Hispanic communities, are down as much as 80%.  This event on Wednesday Night this week is your chance to come out, help many of them, and have some incredible fun as well!  People ask how to help- spending some money or just coming by to explore this Plaza and all of the vendors this week is one great way to do it.   The event is being set up and promoted by Hillsboro Downtown Partnership and Unite Oregon.  The following post is from the City of Hillsboro – we are reposting and amplifying it.

Support Local during Lotería de Paisanos Event

Post Date:12/12/2025

A new event coming to Downtown Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District and Avenida Diez encourages community members to take action with their dollars this holiday season and support local Latino businesses during a challenging time for immigrant communities.

Lotería de Paisanos, a bingo-style game, encourages participants to meet vendors and explore the wide variety of food and gifts available for sale at Paisanos Plaza on Oak Street at 10th Avenue.

The event promises an evening of food, fun, and shopping for all ages with warm smiles, a sense of togetherness, and community empowerment.

Drop in to the event on Wednesday, December 17, from 4 – 8 pm at Paisanos Plaza (996 SE Oak Street) in Downtown Hillsboro.

How the Lotería Event Works

Participants will receive a special Lotería card to visit businesses throughout the market. Completed cards can be entered to win Downtown Hillsboro gift cards, encouraging continued support of other local businesses.

The event is family-friendly and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to come hungry, ready to shop, and prepared to discover what makes Paisanos Plaza such a special part of Downtown Hillsboro.

Lotería de Paisanos is designed for both regular visitors and for those who have never been to the market before.

Shopping & Food

Shoppers can visit different vendor booths to find an array of food, gifts, and household items. Here are some of the things you might find:

  • Toys & Games
  • Clothing: shoes, jerseys, sweatshirts & more
  • Blankets
  • Backpacks
  • Jewelry
  • Electronics
  • Food: fresh fruit, corn on the cob, tamales, bubble tea & more

About the Event

Lotería de Paisanos is being organized by Hillsboro Downtown Partnership and Unite Oregon.

“This event is about lifting up local businesses, bringing our community together, and reminding people that shopping local has a real impact, especially during the holiday season,” said Harrison Butler, Executive Director of the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership. “We’re inviting the community to show up in force, enjoy an evening out, and help ensure these businesses feel the love and support they deserve right now.”

Hillsboro Downtown Partnership (HDP) is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to cultivating a vibrant, welcoming, and economically thriving Downtown Hillsboro. Through events, beautification projects, business support, and community partnerships, HDP works to make downtown a destination for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Unite Oregon is a nonprofit organization led by people of color, immigrants and refugees, rural communities, and people experiencing poverty.
