Hillsboro is home to the HART Theatre, a homegrown success story. COVID almost wiped out this and every other community-based performing arts group, but not HART, which, as an organization, dug in and fought its way back to new heights. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Harrison Butler, who is part theatrical genius and part junkyard dog, HART has not only fought its way back to relevance but has also risen to the highest heights it has ever seen.  Pushed forward by a vibrant board of directors that includes longtime supporter and Hillsboro business icon Marlys Carter, as well as newcomers like writer and creative force April Aasheim, the organization is looking at a bright future.

We wanted to share this press release with all of you. Anne of Green Gables is selling out, but there are seats left. Looking ahead, auditions are going on for Biloxi Blues and Calendar Girls, and the organization is also teaching classes to help aspiring actors and actresses rise.  Looking around the Region we see this organization as one that has risen and become substantial as it puts out great production and art.  Butler and the team are looking at growth, classes, and a future where artists can continue to rise and grow in Hillsboro.  We encourage you all to support HART and attend a show.  This vital work in Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District is exactly what our community needs and the capacity for more work and more artists to come from HART is almost limitless!

Very pleased that the Hillsboro Hart Theatre is thriving. Just goes to show if the unbusiness saavy City of Hillsboro stays the hell out of the way, businesses can grow and do well. Examples include Sequoia Art Gallery, Venetian 1, and Bag & Baggage who were all highly subsidized by the City of Hillsboro. Two of these have failed and the other owes the taxpayers a “LOAN repayment”.
