When 2022 ends, many of us will take a deep breath and have to regroup. While we could call this the Covid Comeback Year, it really was filled with so many challenges.  For Hillsboro residents, the year started with a tragic apartment fire near downtown that displaced many families, and the next day the Weils Department store burned down, crippling our downtown area.  That rough start was tempered by community events that grew and grew with thousands of people returning to try and get things back to normal.  Our housing market took off again in the early part of the year but since about May has retracted a few percent.  Inflation reared its ugly head, with gas prices pushing $6 dollars a gallon by Summer.  They have thankfully retreated to pre-pandemic prices.  Intel, the region’s largest employer, is laying off thousands of workers here in Hillsboro. Water rates are headed up in January, as are a wide variety of monthly expenses we all face.

Overall, 2022 was a wild one.  Before we head off into 2023, we wanted to revisit some of the videos we created this year at the Herald.  It takes a lot of work to bring great content to all of you, our readers, and our site is free, and we do the work for free.  We hope you enjoy our video rewind of 2022..the year that was!
