HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, HILLSBORO! I’m getting ready for the 2024 Parade and will be hanging out on Main Street at my office with the kids and grands. So I will make this one brief.
On the way out the door tonight, I looked over at massive volume of Hillsboro Argus dailies I just purchased from Dianne Francis at Arcade Book Store. On display now, these massive books represent years of the actual Hillsboro Argus paper ranging from 1951 to 1969. I could not resist. I pulled 1969 from the rack and placed it on the table. I found the issue right after the 4th of July and opened it up. What the Argus did during that Summer of Love printing was showcase Hillsboro at that time. We called it the Hillsboro Happy Days back then. What fun we all had. Celebrations all over the city and valley including the best Fair and Rodeo ever! Anyway, before I start talking about the good ‘ole days let me share these photos!! Enjoy and please leave your comments and memories below! Enjoy the parade and holiday!!

The thing I noticed first about your photos is how WHITE everyone was . . If memory serves, the summer of love in Hillsboro was years BEFORE it was legal for a black person to buy a house here . . . . Gag me . . THAT was the Hillsboro way . . .
Wow, we used to have a respectable city.
Dirk…i had a hand in putting together the Rainbow #24 Old Woman in Shoe Float. Frame was chicken wire and we made Thousands of paper flowers. I was 16.
