The Real Story – A Column

There is a Special Meeting tonight to replace the meeting canceled last week after Councilor Cristian Salgado’s actions led to chaos and cancellation.   But as of this AM, the Herald has 3 versions of what is happening tonight, probably because the City is still in turmoil over what to do.  With some Councilors demanding his resignation, and Salgado stating he will not resign, things are very tense:

WHAT WE KNOW:  TWO MESSAGES –  The City’s website as of 11:48 is stating the meeting is ALL ZOOM – ZOOM & TVCTV FOR SURE– 7:30 PM

LIVE OPTION?   A Live option to show up at City Hall has been confirmed.  Yellow cards will be available for people to fill out and speak from the table at the Civic Center!

Most City Council members will attend virtually via Zoom.

Members of the public can attend in the following ways:

  • Listen to the meeting, and provide public comment, from the Civic Center Auditorium. To provide public comment from the Civic Center, people should fill out a yellow card and hand it to the City Recorder.
  • Listen to the meeting, and provide public comment, by joining the Zoom Teleconference. To provide public comment via Zoom, people should email council@hillsboro-oregon.gov by 3pm today, Tuesday, June 23.
  • Listen to the meeting live on the City’s YouTube Channel.
  • Listen to the meeting live on TVCTV Public Access Channel 23.

Public Comment is listed on the agenda as Item 6.

The City Council will hold two Public Hearings during the meeting to receive testimony on two items. The Public Hearings are listed as Items 2.1 and 2.2. Testimony received during the Public Hearings must relate directly to those two items.

You can now access all information related to upcoming City Council meetings through the City’s new CivicWeb Portal. The web-based paperless agenda management portal provides user-friendly navigation of meeting materials and information.  Agendas and packet materials are posted one week before the meeting.

Public Comment

Comments are limited to three minutes.

 

Speaking In Person: Please fill out a yellow card on the table in the back of the room and give it to the City Recorder. If you have a written statement for the Council, please have 10 copies available and give them to the City Recorder, who will distribute them to the Council.

 

Speaking Virtually: Register to speak by contacting the City Recorder’s Office before 3 pm the day of the meeting. Email Council@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov
