The Hillsboro Herald, as a publication and media outlet, seeks to uplift organizations and individuals that exemplify how we can all work together to build the best Hillsboro there can be—a Hillsboro that is equitable and fair to all, one that promotes equality and opportunity to all.   This year, we will be focusing on such organizations and individuals.  If you would like to make a nomination, please email hillsboroherald@gmail.com.

Hillsboro’s future has always been shaped by people willing to show up, lead, and think beyond their own time. As our city changes fast, one value should never move: enhancing the quality of life for everyone who calls this place home.

Hillsboro Community Foundation
The Hillsboro Community Foundation is a terrific organization with a Mission to keep Hillsboro great! Logo Courtesy of HCF https://hcf-or.org/

That’s the mission the Hillsboro Community Foundation (HCF) has carried for decades. Its roots reach back to the early 1980s, when the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce—under the leadership of Robert “Bob” Herb—brought together city and community leaders who met regularly to confront real needs in a practical, local way. That work blossomed into HCF, which was formally established in 1986 and received its IRS designation as a 501(c)(3) public charity.

Since then, HCF has quietly and effectively facilitated philanthropy and helped fund many of Hillsboro’s points of pride—supporting the organizations that make this place livable, connected, and worth investing in.

HCF’s role in the community is to:

  • Promote Hillsboro’s needs as a community ambassador

  • Raise awareness about how philanthropy helps achieve community goals

  • Create and manage donor-directed charitable funds that support the many organizations, programs, and events that bring Hillsboro to life—while ensuring the Foundation remains sustainable and effective

At its core, HCF connects donors to the causes they care about—and inspires people by showing the real-world impact their giving can make on local organizations, projects, and programs.

If you believe Hillsboro’s growth should keep matching its values, consider giving to HCF and help ensure the next generation inherits a community that’s stronger than the one we found.

See the HCF Year-End Message Below and consider donating to them by year’s end for a tax write-off, or next year in 2026.

In 2025, HCF distributed $661,881 in fund distributions, grants, and scholarships.
