Editors Note:  This is an Op-Ed article sent to us by Olivia Alcaire who is a longtime Hillsboro Resident and current Hillsboro City Councilor.  Ms. Alciare is completing her Educational Doctorate.

I am Hillsboro City Councilor Olivia Alcaire and I endorse my friend Reiko Mia Williams for PCC Board District 7. Vote for Reiko!

Reiko Mia Williams

Reiko is a tale of persistence and success. A Beaverton resident for 26 years, Reiko lives within walking distance of the PCC Rock Creek campus. Reiko is an educator, engaged community member, volunteer, and a single Black mother of 3 daughters. Reiko values student access and completion and encouraged her own daughters to succeed despite barriers. Reiko’s credentials include an MSW license, K-12 Administrator license, and is completing her EdD at PSU. Reiko is a K-6 Principal.

Reiko’s steady, transformative leadership benefits PCC students. Reiko believes in PCC’s future. Reiko has the capacity to serve on PCC’s Board and believes in community building across multiple PCC campuses and with community stakeholders to do what is best for students. Reiko has expertise in administration, organizational development, and social justice advocacy. Reiko values the journey students take to meet college goals, especially students of color, immigrants, first-generation, veterans, and older students needing help with college processes. Reiko’s steady, transformative leadership benefits PCC student success. Vote for Reiko!

Editors Note:  We have had a chance to meet in the recent past with Ms. WIlliams and are familiar with her children and the successes they have had here in our local schools and beyond.  We believe her life experiences make her extremely fit to serve as a Board Member at PCC.  While she is not an outsider or stranger to the community college, she will bring a very broad spectrum of experiences to that role.  We believe her objectiveness will be a real plus for PCC. Her vision of growing the opportunities for people from all races and skillsets is notable and she has solid ideas of how to do that.  Based on these factors we will join Councilor Alcaire in supporting Ms. WIlliams for the PCC District 7 Board seat.
