Transportation is a hot-button issue in many communities, and Washington County is undoubtedly one of them.  No matter where you go in our County, you will surely find travel and traffic-related issues.  From cars to bikes and mass transit, traveling and navigating the County is no easy task.  And how do we pay for the millions we need to build new systems, maintain what we have, and keep commerce and our societies moving?  Well that and much more is likely to be on the agenda at the open house Dec 2nd at the Hillsboro Brookwood library.

Washington County 2024 Transportation Open House – SOURCE:  Janeen Sollman Newsletter

From State Senator Janeen Sollman’s newsletter:  She invites citizens to come to a “transportation-focused Town Hall on Monday, December 2nd at 6:00-7:30 pm, at the Hillsboro Brookwood Library. I will be joined by Senator Wlnsvey Campos, Washington County Commissioner Nafisa Fai, and Metro Councilor Juan Carlos Gonzalez. We look forward to seeing you there!”

Will tolling of our key highways be on that list of topics?  It was a year ago, and many local and state leaders convened to discuss these very issues.  No one wants tolling.  But in these budget-constrained times, the concept may rear its head again.  Below is the 2023 article the Herald featured on that topic.

Tolling Proposal By Officials And Others A Sign That Leadership Is Not For The People

Washington County has completed its updated Transportation Systems plan, and the 140+ page report is chock full of data and statistics, along with projects and priorities. How do we keep our jobs, kids, citizens, and visitors moving safely around this place we call home? It is a big job, for sure, and your voices are needed.

Attend the meeting to find out more and get involved!

Here is some info from the Washington County website:

The Transportation System Plan (TSP) includes policies and strategies to meeting the needs of all travelers. It reflects the goals of the community and includes population and employment projections through 2040.

The directs how we build, operate and support our road network. It also addresses multiuse trails, state highways and railroads supported by others.

The Hillsboro Herald is a News source- an online digital newspaper and media source. Most of our stories are one-of-a-kind, unique, hyper-local, investigative, and uncovered by no other news media.  We have subscribers and allow advertisers to work with us and meet our readers.  We are formally organized as an Oregon LLC with the express purpose of gathering and diseminating news to the public and the Citizens of the Communities we serve.
The City of Hillsboro leadership denies the Hillsboro Herald access to Executive Sessions, which has been held almost every meeting lately.  There is no record of what happens in those meetings, and media and journalists are allowed.  The Herald has been denied access because their city attorneys stated that this is a blog site, not a news media source.  This makes it convenient for them to hide what is being done and said from the Herald.  We tell you, our readers, this to make you ponder their decision and why they have made it.  Several attorneys from the State and National Levels offer to take this matter to court.  We want to bring you the news- and the best of the news.
We do not force our readers to pay for the news like The Oregonian, Oregon-Live, The Business Journal, and others will.  We do ask for your support and patronage as a subscriber or supporter.  You can do that right here- https://www.patreon.com/join/HillsboroHerald

I’m guessing there will be questions about the part of the bike route that comes down from Jackson School and slams to a weird halt at Walnut.

One would hope so. John Haide and a few others have been more and more active representing the bicycle community. Hope all is well at he “Goat Farm”. Happy Turkey Day – or however you celebrate it!
