City Council Race Heats Up With 6 Candidates

The only contested City Council race in Hillsboro, Oregon right now is the race for Ward 3.  The City Council seat is being vacated by Fred Nachtigal after his terms winds up this year!  The race had 6 candidates line up to run and there are some very good choices in the mix.

Posted at the City website is this summary of those running.  We encourage all voters to look closely at the qualifications of these candidates.  No matter who wins we have some great choices for whoever leads the City forward from Ward 3.

6 Candidates Seek Open Hillsboro City Council Seat

Update: Chuck Gonzales withdrew his candidacy on Friday, August 28. 

Four Hillsboro City Council seats will appear on voters’ ballots on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, but only one seat will be contested.

Mayor Steve Callaway, Councilor Rick Van Beveren (Ward 1, Position B), and Councilor Anthony Martin (Ward 2, Position B) all seek election to a second term on the Council without opponents. It’s a much different story in Ward 3.

Ahead of the August 25 filing deadline, six Hillsboro residents declared their candidacy for the Ward 3, Position B seat currently held by Council President Fred Nachtigal, who will depart the Council in January 2021 after two terms.

The six candidates for Ward 3, Position B are (in alphabetical order):

 

  • Kimberly Culbertson
  • Thomas Flaherty
  • Alexander Flores
  • John Kinsky
  • Katherine Rhee
  • Gina Roletto

All City Council positions are nonpartisan. Elected terms are for four years.
