Like most of us, Adrian Louise was getting ready for Thanksgiving when the news came that a car had rammed into the front of her well-loved business, Jim’s Ice Cream. Hillsboro, Oregon, has been lucky enough to have Adrian and her ice cream shop open for right at 10 years now; an Anniversary was being planned when this happened. The former 31 Flavors has been a part of Hillsboro longer than most locals have lived here, and many have been alive.

The news channels were on the scene to cover the devastation, which sent one of the passengers and a bystander to the hospital with serious injuries. An update on them has not been given.
Adrian took to Facebook to make this statement:
I’m sad to announce that there was a very serious car accident this morning that badly damaged the ice cream shop.
First, my family is safe, we didn’t have anyone in the building at the time of the incident.Unfortunately, that means we will be closed for the foreseeable future. The driver and another man were injured, our thoughts go out to them both.
Thank you EVERYONE for all your support and messages. I’m thankful to have such a wonderful community.
Now, the community seems ready to rebuild the store and do fundraising as posts rise across all platforms. Adrian is well-loved and supports people in need along SE 10th Avenue, which the City is now branding as Calle Diez. The area has seen more than its share of crime and homelessness, and I have personally been told of many things Adrian has done for those in need.
We reached out to Adrian, who we got to know during the #HillsboroStrong movement during COVID-19. She sent along a message indicating that everything is up in the air and must proceed with great thought and caution. The property owner, the driver, and her insurance agents will need time to see what coverages are. And this much destruction of a vintage building will take time to unravel. But Adrian is feeling very uplifted and grateful for the Hillsboro Community support.
“I am Overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. It has been so comforting and wonderful; the last 24 hours have been quite a ride. Hopefully, in the next week, we will get the building inspected, get some contractors in there, and start to figure out what we can do,” she said.
“I can’t express how grateful I am to everyone. I will reach out once we know when our doors can reopen.”
UPDATE:
From Adrian:
After discussions with people with more knowledge about these kinds of situations, we have decided that the best course of action for now is to start a GoFundMe to help my family and my employee’s family get through for the time being.
If you feel so inclined, we appreciate every single donation to help keep food on the table and stay afloat while this lengthy process sorts itself out.
More importantly, we ask that you PLEASE share this on your social media pages as well for more visibility and to help the facebook algorithms keep us out there.
Thank you everyone for your support! I can’t express enough how grateful we are to all of you.

THIS article IS local journalism at it’s finest, harboring community and encouraging us all to HELP eachother, thank you Adrian, for everything your family has done for us all . . thank you Dirk
I just typed “Jim’s Ice Cream” into news.google.com and the top hit was this article at The Hillsboro Herald.
I thought the city told you this wasn’t a news site?
They have and continue to. If you really look close we are #1 on Google and I know for a fact that we produced more original content than the Oregonian and News Times combined. So someday we will get reocognized. Sadly if I start charging even 25 cents a story we become a news source. I’m gonna keep things moving the way we are headed for now.
Thanks for the support.
Dirk
