Katie Lineburg, a Senior at St. Stephen’s Academy in Hillsboro, Oregon, won the Oregon 2024 Poetry Out Lou. The event, which was held at the Salem library and featured competitors from around the State, was a success.

Lineburg, a talented performer, brought life to the poems “The Pulley” by George Herbert and “Beginning” by James Wright. As the eldest of five siblings, she cherishes the bonds of family and friendship while also finding joy in music. Her involvement in the St. Stephen’s Academy Festival Choir reflects her passion for music, further fueled by poetry’s unique ability to connect deeply with others and profoundly express emotions. Public speaking, a natural love since childhood, allows her to share her voice further and engage with the world.

She will now represent Oregon at the national Poetry Out Loud competition from April 30 through May 2 in Washington, D.C.  The Hillsboro Herald and the people of Hillsboro send well wishes to Katie to bring home the win and to have a great time back East!

Find out more about Poetry Out Loud and how you can get involved right here- https://www.oregon.gov/biz/aboutus/artscommission/special_projects/poetry-out-loud/pages/default.aspx

Poetry Out Loud is a contest open to all Oregon high school students. It is a free program that encourages young performers to dive into American poetry through memorization and competitive performance. Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation in partnership with the Oregon Arts Commission and other state arts agencies.
