Visitors can check out some Hillsboro history tonight at the Tuesday Night Market! The Hillsboro Historical Society is hosting a booth at the Tom Hughes Civic Plaza where historical photos will be displayed, and members will be present to talk about all things Hillsboro history! There will also be walking tour maps, artifacts, and actual volumes of the famous Hillsboro Argus newspapers. You can stop in and relive the best moments from the 1950s and 1960s, as reported by the writers and editors of the most outstanding community paper to ever exist in Oregon.

Editors Note: Full disclosure to our readers: I am the President and a very active member of the Hillsboro Historical Society!
The Hillsboro Historical Society has been around for about 22 years and was founded in response to the demolition of the old County poor farm when Lowes was put in. Beyond that, the founders felt that Hillsboro needed its own historical representation, as most of the artifacts and historical documents are held in the rooms of the 5 Oaks Museum in Bethany. The group has been active in many community projects to preserve historical assets, teach the community about the rich heritage in the Tualatin Valley, and enhance the sense of place that both longtime and new residents have about this place we call home.
The group’s latest project, and one of the most important ever undertaken, is to raise funds for the digitization and scanning of the Hillsboro Argus at the University of Oregon Online Digital Newspaper Project. The Argus is one of the only papers not scanned and online. Getting this done will allow people from all walks of life and all mobility levels to research and read the decades of stories held within those volumes. Hundreds of thousands of stories and photos will come to life and forever exist in the world again. The once-hidden facts and tales will get new life and connect our people to the past and their family’s stories. This is a very powerful thing to see happen.

The HHS has set up a GoFundMe to help them get this done. The group has already surpassed 5,000 dollars of investment that the members have made to get the Argus digitized from 1894 to 1932. Now, they seek the help of all of you from Hillsboro and everywhere in the Tualatin Valley to get this project done from 1930 to 1950. Those years will connect our community from the Stock Market Crash of 1929 through the Great Depression and WW II.
Come check out some cool Hillsboro History tonight and help get behind the Hillsboro Argus Digitization Project!
